Saints/Vikings game the highest rated opener ever

In the aftermath of the Saints 14-9 victory over the Vikings on the NFL’s opening night came some eye-popping statistics. The Saints/Vikings tilt on Thursday night was the highest rated opening game in NFL history, with 28 percent of all households in America tuning in to watch the defending Super Bowl champions take on the Vikings. One of the most astounding statistics from the ratings report were the numbers that the game garnered in New Orleans. Thursday night’s game had a seven percent higher rating in New Orleans than the Super Bowl, showing how Saints fever had clearly plagued those in the Gulf Coast region. While the game obviously didn’t have the fireworks the NFL envisioned, it’s clear that many people tuned in to see how the Vikings would respond in their first game...
