Six weeks into the 2010 NFL season and every team has at least two losses. At this point, it’s nearly impossible to say any team is a distinct Super Bowl favorite.
Week 6 was filled with plenty of hot topics for discussion. Thanks to Jeric Griffin of TheCowboysCentral.com for his contributions for this list. Without further ado, here are the 2010 NFL Power Rankings for Week 6 from www.RantSports.com:
1. Pittsburgh Steelers (4): It was good to see Big Ben return as the starting quarterback for the Steelers. After a shaky start, he bounced back and established solid connections with all of his receiving weapons. It should be interesting to see how he performs against the Dolphins next weekend.
2. New York Jets (3): Five wins in a row, a solid defense and good quarterback play have Rex Ryan’s bunch sitting pretty. Hopefully a bye week doesn’t kill their momentum.
3. New England Patriots (5): Well, it took Tom Brady and company just one week to prove they can still be just as dangerous without Randy Moss. Deion Branch looked impressive during his second debut in New England.
4. Indianapolis Colts (6): Peyton Manning’s group is not as sharp as they were last season, but they still find ways to win. As long as Manning and Reggie Wayne are on the field, the Colts have a shot.
5. Baltimore Ravens (1): A great game came up just short to New England, but the reemergence of Ray Rice and the development of Joe Flacco will keep the Ravens in the hunt and a home game against Buffalo won’t hurt.
6. Atlanta Falcons (2): For a defense that just started to receive recognition after allowing their opponents to score just 14 points per game the first five weeks, the Falcons allowed the Eagles to score 31 points. Falling behind early prevented them from using their running game more as they played catch up all game.
7. New York Giants (12): Three wins in a row and a stifling defense are helping New York become the best team in the clustered NFC East. A Monday nighter at Dallas could cement that title.
8. New Orleans Saints (8): After an embarrassing loss to Arizona, New Orleans got back on track with a dominating win at Tampa Bay. A home game against the Browns should get a nice little winning streak started.
9. Philadelphia Eagles (14): Simply wow. Nobody expected the Eagles to defeat the Falcons the way they did. Kevin Kolb looked impressive enough to once again start a quarterback controversy in Philly. Andy Reid must feel nice knowing he’s got two quarterbacks capable of handling the starting job.
10. Miami Dolphins (18): A big overtime win at Lambeau Field has Miami sitting pretty. A home game against the Steelers is a perfect opportunity for the Phins to vault near the top of the standings.
11. Tennessee Titans (15): A big win over Jacksonville keeps Tennessee tied for first in the AFC South. We’ll see if their defense remains dominant against a high-flying Philly team.
12. Houston Texans (9): Schaub and Foster both bounced back in a solid win over the Chiefs. A bye week could be just what the doctor ordered for this banged up Texans team.
13. Washington Redskins (10): Too many missed opportunities to pick off Peyton Manning led to the Redskins losing by three points for the second time this season. A big game next weekend in Chicago if Washington wants to keep up with the Giants and Eagles in the NFC East.
14. Green Bay Packers (9): Two overtime losses in a row have left Green Bay looking nothing like the Super Bowl contender we expected. Things don’t get easier with Brett Favre coming back to Lambeau again this week…
15. Chicago Bears (7): Once again, the offensive line failed to protect Jay Cutler and allowed five sacks against the Seahawks. Other than Matt Forte’s touchdown on the opening drive, the offense couldn’t get anything consistent going.
16. Kansas City Chiefs (11): Matt Cassel finally had a big game, but the Chiefs let the game slip away against the Texans for their second-straight loss. Lucky for them, nobody in the AFC West won on Sunday.
17. Seattle Seahawks (26): The most inconsistent team in the league had another good game over favored Chicago. The reemergence of Mike Williams could be just what Seattle needs.
18. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (16): Two blow out losses to the Steelers and Saints has many wondering if this Bucs team has what it takes to be a contender. It should be an interesting matchup next weekend with the Rams coming to town considering how much they’ve struggled on the road recently.
19. Jacksonville Jaguars (17): A blowout loss to rival Tennessee has Jacksonville at the bottom of the AFC South. A road trip to Kansas City will be very interesting for both teams.
20. Arizona Cardinals (20): A key division matchup against the Seahawks will help determine how good the Cards are. Max Hall and the rest of the offense will need to perform better than they did against the Saints.
21. Minnesota Vikings (23): Crisis averted in Minnesota with a close win over Dallas. Although the Vikings were outplayed, they came away with their second win of the year to stay afloat in the NFC North.
22. St. Louis Rams (28): In a game where just about every NFL analyst said the Chargers would finally pick up their first win on the road in 2010, the Rams pulled off another big win. Danario Alexander could emerge as a favorite target for Sam Bradford.
23. Cincinnati Bengals (21): Terrell Owens is finally living up to the hype, but the Bengals still have plenty of other areas in need of improvement. Unfortunately, they face another difficult task in Atlanta this weekend against the Falcons.
24. San Diego Chargers (19): The most disappointing team in the AFC continues to fall very short of expectations. A home game against the Patriots doesn’t make things any better.
25. Denver Broncos (25): Another loss to a good team doesn’t drop Denver too far, but Kyle Orton has to start winning those close games. A healthy Knowshon Moreno could fix that.
26. Dallas Cowboys (20): The Cowboys find different ways to lose every week. However, there’s no reason to count them out yet considering they’re only two games behind the Giants and Eagles in the NFC East–two teams they still get to play twice against.
27. Detroit Lions (27): Four of Detroit’s five losses have been by single digits. This team is a lot more talented than their record indicates. Just wait until Matthew Stafford returns.
28. Oakland Raiders (24): Flashes of brilliance faded to the same old Oakland. Michael Bush flailed after a big week in his first start of the year. Maybe a healthy Darren McFadden will fix the Raiders.
29. San Francisco 49ers (30): The first win of the season came a lot later than expected for the NFC West favorites. A 1-5 record is a long road back, but a cupcake matchup with Carolina is a good start.
30. Cleveland Browns (30): Despite the loss, the Browns have to be excited about how impressive Colt McCoy looked against a very talented Steelers’ defense. It should be interesting to see if he gets the starting nod again next weekend against the defending Super Bowl champions.
31. Carolina Panthers (31): First, Matt Moore gets benched for Jimmy Clausen. After three games with the rookie, the Panthers have decided to go back with Moore as their starter. With Steve Smith still out, does it even matter who plays quarterback?
32. Buffalo Bills (32): A bye week doesn’t help the league’s worst team; a trip to Baltimore against an angry Ravens team won’t end well for Buffalo either.
Be sure to check back next week!
