The New York Giants and Carolina Panthers will kick off week three tonight. Here is a look at what to watch for during this primetime matchup.
Cam, Oh Cam: In the Giants loss in week one, Tony Romo was able to scramble around and make plays from outside the pocket. While Cam Newton may or may not be a better quarterback than Romo, one of the abilities that Cam has to scramble around and make plays. In order for the Giants to have a shot at winning this game, they have to contain Newton. If they have to rotate who is spying on him to do so then they should do it. This is Newton’s first primetime game, so you know he’s going to do all he can in a national spotlight against the defending Super Bowl Champs.
Cruz Control: Victor Cruz is going to be the focal point of the Panther defense tonight. Without the injured Hakeem Nicks and Ahmad Bradshaw, the Panthers are going to make guys like Andre Brown and Martellus Bennett beat them. It wouldn’t shock me if Carolina doubled Cruz all game long.
On The Run: Both teams have the ability to throw, but both teams need their run games to be effective. Both teams may be without their top running backs as well. We know Bradshaw won’t play, but there are whispers of Johnathan Stewart being unable to give it a go for Carolina. Stewart missed week one with a toe injury and didn’t practice this week.
