The New England Patriots seem to be losing that keen edge that keeps them among the NFL‘s elite teams. There’s an electronic billboard in the Boston area counting down the days, hours and minutes until Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis‘ retirement party. There’s no proof that the Patriots’ organization actually put the billboard in place, but New England is going to regret it regardless.
First of all, the opening line for this game was nine points. These people think the Patriots are going to beat the Ravens by nine points. Did they not watch the Ravens’ thrilling 38-35 overtime win over the Denver Broncos in the divisional round? Lewis is playing out of his mind right now and Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco has taken his game to a new level in these playoffs. Not only is that spread not going to stick, but the Ravens are going to win this game–I guarantee it.
Lewis came back from a season-ending injury in a month. They said he was done during the season and now he leads the league in tackles during these playoffs. How in the world can you taunt a guy like that, especially when he’s the leader of the defense that’s given Patriots quarterback Tom Brady fits over the years.
Lewis isn’t going to say anything–that’s not like him. He’s simply going to show up to Gillette Stadium and “do work.” However, if he makes a game-changing play like a sack on third down, or returns an interception for a touchdown, you can bet the farm Lewis will make it known his retirement will be put off at least two more weeks if that happens.
