With Robert Griffin III’s injury most likely keeping him out of parts of 2013, the Washington Redskins will most-likely rely on Kirk Cousins to run the show. But who will back Cousins up? Can I suggest Tim Tebow to the Redskins? He is a smart guy who would make a good backup quarterback.
Currently, former Chicago Bears signal caller Rex Grossman is Cousins’ backup. We all know what Grossman is and what he cannot do. I find it hard to believe that Tebow is that much worse than Grossman. Meanwhile, Tebow can step in and do some of the flex-option plays run by RG3. While he doesn’t have the arm, he certainly has the smarts and toughness it takes to run this type of offense. He did a heck of a job of it with the Florida Gators.
There’s no telling what the Redskins are going to do at the quarterback position. I am still not 100 percent convinced it will be Cousins there at all. By bringing in Tebow, you are opening up options at camp. Between Cousins, Grossman and potentially Tebow, there are three quarterbacks giving Mike Shanahan three different looks. While Grossman and Tebow’s looks may not be pretty, they are options, plus it pushes Cousins to work that much harder.
There’s no way the Redskins can make up for the loss of RG3. But they can try to tread water in case he isn’t able to come back in 2013. They can certainly do worse than Tebow and will if their choice is Grossman. Trust me, he’s gross!
