With the way things turned out last season, everybody expected the Philadelphia Eagles to part ways with Michael Vick this offseason, but the team decided to give him one final shot at quarterback since Chip Kelly has always been known to have a running quarterback in his offense. Still, just because Vick is on the roster now doesn’t mean he’s guaranteed the starting job as Nick Foles seems determined more than ever to give his teammate a run for the money when it comes to being the No. 1 quarterback on the roster.
While it may sound crazy to even think about the possibility of Foles beating out Vick for the starting job, Kelly claims the two seem to be even at this point–which means this could be a fun offseason for the Eagles.
From an experience standpoint, Vick clearly has the advantage over Foles, but it’s been no secret the veteran quarterback has been on the decline over the last couple of seasons and he’s clearly not as effective with his legs anymore. As for Foles, he certainly showed potential at times throughout the 2012 season, but it’s still too early to determine whether or not he has what it takes to be a starter considering how inexperienced he is at the NFL level.
All signs point to Foles earning a shot being the franchise quarterback in the future, but it will be interesting to see whether or not he has what it takes to beat out Vick for the upcoming season. Anything is possible when it comes to the NFL–so keep an eye on this quarterback battle over the next couple of months.
