The Cleveland Browns have been quite busy this offseason when it comes to free agency signings, but one of the biggest questions heading into the 2013 season is which quarterback will be calling the shots once Week 1 rolls around. At the moment, the job is Brandon Weeden‘s to lose considering the potential he displayed as a rookie during the 2012 season.
The only question left to be answered–will he be able to hold on to the starting job?
Weeden may have showed potential at times as a rookie, but the fact that he threw more interceptions than actual touchdowns may be a reason for concern. There were plenty of questions surrounding Cleveland last year when they used a first-round pick on Weeden considering he was older than most rookies and he’ll face plenty of pressure heading into next season considering the Browns don’t seem afraid to give another quarterback a shot if they need to.
Plus, keep in mind that Cleveland also signed Jason Campbell this offseason to give Weeden some competition at quarterback–so that could make training camp interesting in a a few months. Either way, Weeden realizes there’s plenty of pressure on his shoulders heading into the 2013 season and if he fails to impress the organization over the next couple of months leading into training camp–it will be interesting to see what the future holds with him and the Browns.
There are plenty of quarterbacks with potential in this year’s draft class, so if Weeden fails to impress over the next couple of weeks–he could be in trouble heading into next season when it comes to job security.
