2013 will no doubt be a ‘Super Bowl or bust’ type of season for the San Francisco 49ers. After coming up just short last year, the pressure will be on heading forward. The 49ers play in arguably the toughest division in football, and in the far superior NFC, so their 2013 schedule doesn’t figure to be easy.
Let’s take a look:
Week 1 – Green Bay Packers
Week 2 – @ Seattle Seahawks (SNF)
Week 3 – Indianapolis Colts
Week 4 – @ St. Louis Rams (TNF)
Week 5 – Houston Texans (SNF)
Week 6 – Arizona Cardinals
Week 7 – @ Tennessee Titans
Week 8 – @ Jacksonville Jaguars
Week 9 – BYE
Week 10 – Carolina Panthers
Week 11 – @ New Orleans Saints
Week 12 – @ Washington Redskins (MNF)
Week 13 – St. Louis Rams
Week 14 – Seattle Seahawks
Week 15 – @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Week 16 – Atlanta Falcons (MNF)
Week 17 – @ Arizona Cardinals
There’s not a whole lot you can say about the Niners’ schedule, except – wow. What a slew of football games they have to look forward to this season. The first five games of the season, are all against quality opponents, and four playoff teams from last year. However, the next three games, should all be winnable heading into the week nine bye.
After the break, the schedule only gets more difficult, as the 49ers have tough road matchups with New Orleans and Washington, followed by two more tough NFC games, against Seattle and Atlanta. You know it’s bad when ending the season at Arizona, seems like a good draw.
Nothing is easy in the NFL, and just because San Francisco is a favorite on paper, doesn’t mean it will come easy. One look at their schedule, will prove that.
