The 2013 NFL Draft is finally here, well just a few days away and there’s still speculation about the draft, which is what makes it so exciting. We can all guess who our favorite team will, or better yet, should pick but unless we’re in that draft room, we really don’t know. What we do know is that every team has needs and the Dallas Cowboys have got them on both sides of the ball.

Offensively, the Cowboys need to upgrade their line at each of the three positions and they should be selecting offensive linemen early and often in the draft. They could also upgrade their tight end, wide receiver and running back positions and we haven’t even talked about the quarterback spot, which desperately needs a young player to groom. So it’s safe to say the Cowboys can’t turn away help at any position.

Defensively the story is no different as the Cowboys have needs at all three levels. You can take your pick over which position needs the help more but the defensive line and safety positions both need work The Cowboys would be wise to look hard at drafting for both positions early in the draft. They could also use another linebacker since their depth took a hit when they moved to a 4-3 defense.

Here is the seventh, and final, mock draft, leading up to the NFL Draft in this week. I truly believe the Cowboys are looking to make a trade and acquire picks, especially if neither of the top guards is available. However, since we don’t do that here, this is how the draft might come out on Thursday for Dallas. Here is the Dallas Cowboys seven-round mock draft:

1ST Round: Sylvester Williams, Defensive Tackle-North Carolina

Quickly becoming a name on the rise; Williams has nice blend of strength and quickness, which allowed him to get penetration regularly at UNC. He shoots the gaps and has an array of pass rushing moves, leading to 13.5 sacks last year. Great talent, but needs to be more consistent. Love the player and the potential and if anyone could make him play his game on every snap, it just might be Rod Marinelli. Williams is one of the most intriguing prospects at the position.

2ND Round: Larry Warford, Guard-Kentucky

Warford had been on the rise with his postseason Bowl circuit but his stock is suddenly falling a little bit and Cowboys could use that to their advantage. Warford is a mauler in the run game and has the strength to overpower defenders, and the agility to mirror pass rushers. Not particularly fast and has a tough time getting downfield for blocks but good awareness and strength makes him a very good prospect. Would step right in and play for Dallas.

3RD Round: D.J. Swearinger, Safety-South Carolina

Swearinger is a physical safety to who loves to make the big hit. Very aggressive, very good in the run game but still has the ability to close on the ball. Is a little stiff in coverage and isn't smoothest safety prospect in the draft but an intimidating presence in the secondary. A leader and a competitor, both of which the Cowboys could use.

4TH Round: Stepfan Taylor, Running Back-Stanford

Taylor is another player whose measurables won’t match up with scouts but his production was fantastic at Stanford. He does nothing great but everything well. Doesn’t have blazing speed but he’s a fast, physical runner and also has good hands. Perfect complement to DeMarco Murray since he has the toughness to play that Murray may lack. Draft does not have a more ideal backup for Murray.

5TH Round: Zac Dysert, Quarterback-Miami (Oh)

An athletic QB in the mold of Tony Romo, but doesn’t possess the same kind of arm. He is accurate and has good touch throwing the ball down field. Makes good decisions and will step into throws, a tough QB who’s willing to take a hit. He hasn’t played under center much and needs time to develop, great fit with the Cowboys. I am on record as saying the Cowboys should draft a QB early in the draft but it likely won’t happen and here’s where I see the Cowboys pulling the trigger on a quarterback.

6TH Round: Michael Williams, Tight End-Alabama

The Cowboys are set at tight end with receiving types and could really use a thumper at the position to block people and Williams would fit the bill. A much better blocker than receiver, Williams could be the blocker that Martellus Bennett was just three rounds later and without the headache. Alabama’s offense thrives off of the run and Williams was a huge part of that. Williams can also catch the ball well, he proved that during Senior Bowl week, and would be a welcome addition to the Cowboys.
