2013 NFL Draft: Top 100 Big Board
2013 NFL Draft Big Board
The 2013 NFL Draft is here. All the months and hours upon hours of film study by NFL franchises and draftniks alike all build to this. Tonight 32 young men will have what is almost certainly a lifelong dream to be a first round pick in the NFL draft. It’s the culmination of years of work and for me personally, every time one of those players walk up on stage and meet commissioner Roger Goodell it makes me all warm and fuzzy. The draft is the biggest sports event in the world that doesn’t involve a competition, and it grows in its scope every year.
With that, a staple of the draftnik arsenal is the big board. Some analysts do a top 25, some get fancy with a top 32, and some go over the top with a top 300. I choose middle ground and every year I publish a top 100 prospects. It’s important to understand what these top 100 prospects represent. This is not my 100 personal favorite prospects. It does not automatically coordinate with my positional rankings and will almost certainly not coincide with my final mock draft.
This is a list that is the 100 players I believe will be drafted in the first 100 picks. Mock drafts are fun, but ultimately darts at a dart board. A top 100 is different. An accurate top 100 is aligning with the way the league thinks. It’s hard to get that many players right. Part of this list goes strictly in my order of preference. Check the top 50 and you will get a fairly good picture of who my 50 favorite players are in this draft with a few exceptions. 51-100 and all bets are off.
Another big part of the top 100 is the contest that The Huddle Report does every year where they grade out somewhere upwards of 75 top 100 lists by various experts. Over the past five years, my average has placed me in the top 15, and I strive to do better every year. Enjoy my list, share it out and feel free to pick it apart.
