If last season is any indication, 2013 may be Josh Freeman‘s last chance to prove himself as the starting quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers–especially after selecting former NC State quarterback Mike Glennon in the 2013 NFL Draft. Over the last couple of years, Freeman has shown potential at times and he’s even coming off a 2012 season in which he threw for 4,065 passing yards to go along with 27 touchdowns and 17 interceptions–he’ll be facing plenty of pressure heading into next season.
Despite these impressive numbers, the main thing to take into consideration is the Buccaneers failed to make the playoffs when they looked like one of the top contenders in the NFC at the beginning of the season. After signing Vincent Jackson to play alongside Mike Williams, Tampa Bay contained one of the top wide receiver duos in the league–which is why there will be no excuse for Freeman if things go bad next season.
There’s only so much Freeman can do to prove himself and drafting Glennon was a major sign that Tampa Bay isn’t afraid to give another quarterback a shot if their current starter struggles once again. As mentioned before, Freeman has shown potential at times with the Buccaneers, but it’s clear the organization isn’t 100 percent satisfied with the way he’s playing.
If he struggles once again next season–it wouldn’t be a surprise if the team decided to move on from Freeman and see what Glennon brings to the table as they hope he can live up to the potenial.
