Will Kevin Kolb Win the Starting Job For the Buffalo Bills Over E.J. Manuel?

(Mark J. Rebilas/USA Today Sports)

The quarterback position was one of the biggest needs for the Buffalo Bills heading into the offseason and even though Kevin Kolb signed a two-year deal with the team–he still has plenty to prove if he’s going to have any shot at being the starter for the 2013 season. Unfortunately for Kolb, the Bills used a first-round pick on Florida State‘s E.J. Manuel–leaving many wondering whether or not he’ll even have a chance for the starting job next season.

Kolb has received every opportunity in the world over the last couple of years to prove himself as a starting quarterback at the NFL level and if he can’t make it on teams like the Philadelphia Eagles or Arizona Cardinals–it’s difficult to see him have any success as a member of the Bills. Even the last two seasons, Kolb struggled to put up big numbers playing alongside one of the top wide receivers football has to offer in Larry Fitzgerald–which says a lot about him as a quarterback.

Buffalo clearly signed Kolb with the intention of him being the answer for their short-term plans and clearly they want Manuel to eventually take over the starting role at quarterback. Clearly, the Bills saw something special in Manuel if they were willing to use their first-round pick on him and as crazy as it sounds–it wouldn’t be a surprise if they threw him into the mix right away to give him that early experience as a rookie.
