It’s been an interesting last couple of weeks for New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith between falling out of the first round and receiving all of the criticism for what type of individual he is. Now, the main question on the back of everyone’s mind–will Smith be able to handle the pressure as a rookie during the 2013 season?
Obviously, there’s no telling whether or not Smith would even win the starting job heading into the 2013 season considering he would have to beat out Mark Sanchez, but it’s certainly something to consider. Sanchez has received every opportunity in the world to prove himself as the starting quarterback for the Jets over the last couple of seasons and if he’s not effective now–chances are it’s not going to happen anytime soon.
With this in mind–it wouldn’t be a surprise if Smith was considered for the starting job as a rookie.
Of course, it’s one thing to take over the starting role at quarterback as a rookie, but it would be a lot to deal with on Smith’s end if he had to deal with this type of pressure along with all of the criticism. Sure, Smith will most likely try to use all of the criticism as an extra chip on his shoulder to prove himself, but that doesn’t mean it certainly won’t be easy.
Only time will tell, but it will certainly be interesting to see how the rookie handles all of this pressure during the 2013 season as a member of the Jets.
