All injuries considered, Trent Richardson put forth a really impressive rookie campaign in both running between the tackles and catching out of the backfield. The Cleveland Browns’ second year starter has a promising future ahead, so it’s sensible for the organization to remain extremely careful with their No. 3 overall investment in the coming months.
After ESPNCleveland came out with discouraging news about how much Richardson could compete in training camp this offseason, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that word from Browns training camp is that T-Rich’s shin injury is not viewed as all that serious. Richardson refuted the negative news about his leg through the Cleveland Plain Dealer recently.
“No, no. I have not been told that. It’s going to be better for me, better for the team, better for everybody (to) make sure that I’m back late July or early August, whenever we do start our real camp … Y’all wouldn’t even be talking about none of this right now. Y’all wouldn’t even know there was nothing even wrong with my leg.”
Richardson didn’t quite light the world on fire during his rookie season with the 950 yards and 11 touchdowns on 3.6 yards per carry, but the additional outlet he provided as a pass catcher (51 catches for 367 yards) and able pass-blocker right off the bat make him an invaluable piece of this offense. Throw in the injuries and the Brandon Weeden factor, and it’s hard to say he’s underwhelmed.
