Former NFL star receiver Chad Johnson, or Chad Ochocinco as he was once referred to, has been sentenced to 30 days in jail for violating his probation in a domestic violence case involving his ex-wife, Evelyn Lozada.
Johnson originally claimed that the violation in the case occurred because of a miscommunication with his probation officer. That obviously did not fly and an arrest warrant was issued for the former NFL wide out. Johnson was in court on Monday morning, but things quickly fell apart.
Johnson was ready to accept a plea deal that would have kept him out of jail. However, Broward Judge Kathleen McHugh rejected it after Johnson playfully slapped his attorney on the behind in the court room. The judge said that Johnson wasn’t taking things seriously enough, even after he apologized. Johnson’s probation was also extended for three months.
Man, talk about a rough start to a Monday morning. Judging by the reports, it appears that Johnson was a bit too playful and the judge was having none of it. Now instead of going home on Monday morning, Johnson must now prepare for 30 days in the slammer.
Tough break.
Johnson originally pleaded no contest to an August incident in which he allegedly head-butted his ex-wife.
It simply has not been a year to remember for Johnson who has had many notable moments in the NFL. Time for this former receiver to get things straightened out and that’s probably the exact reasoning behind the judge’s decision not to cut him any slack when he was fooling around in her court house.
