In case you haven’t already heard, HBO‘s behind the scenes NFL documentary ‘Hard Knocks‘ will be back on our screen once more in 2013. And with that, everyone’s favorite Cincinnati football team, the Cincinnati Bengals, will be at the center of the documentary once more. The last time the Bengals were featured was in 2009, and we got a glimpse into the inner workings of Mr. Chad ‘Ochocinco’ Johnson for an entire episode. It showed that there was a method to his madness, his obsession with social media and also showed that every word that he says is not just gibberish it actually has some meaning to it. 2009′s Hard Knocks popularized the phrase ‘Child Please’ something that we all say to this day (admit it).
This season, one of the storylines that I am looking forward to most is the emergence of second-year receiver Mohamed Sanu as he goes from strength to strength. After going the first six games of the 2012 season with barely a catch to his name, the boards suddenly lit up with the name Sanu as he scored four touchdowns in three games before missing out on the rest of the season due to surgery on a fracture in his foot.
Since then, we’ve all been very excited to see what the man can do, and getting an early glimpse of that on Hard Knocks will go along way to satiate our curiosity. At this point in time, very little is known about his performance in the NFL. He’s an enigma as far as fans are concerned because he only burst onto the scene for a few games, tore up the red zone and disappeared, leaving us wondering whether that was a fluke or not. Seeing what the coaches and the players all have to say about him behind the scenes as well as watching him work will go a long way towards Bengals fans believing he’s the man to take the number two receiver spot.
There are a lot of talented receivers emerging in Cincinnati this season vying for a the number two spot alongside A.J. Green, and I’m excited to see if Sanu is the man for the job. That will all begin on August 6th with HBO’s Hard Knocks.
