After being listed as a suspect for over a week, former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has officially been charged with the murder of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd.
Hernandez was arrested early Wednesday morning and released by the Patriots less than two hours later as they made it clear the last thing they want to see happen is have this investigation carry over into training camp as a distraction. With all of the details that have emerged over the last week, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to see Hernandez be hit with these charges.
Just look at all of the shady details from Hernandez destroying his cell phone and home security system to the body of Lloyd being found less than a mile from his home; all signs pointed to Hernandez being involved somehow with this investigation.
On top of the murder charge Hernandez was also hit with five gun-related charges as well. The details over the last week with this case have been shady and everybody knew Hernandez had to be involved somehow, but this news still comes as a huge shock at this point in the offseason.
Over the last couple of years, Hernandez had emerged as one of the league’s top pass-catching tight ends and was one of Tom Brady‘s favorite targets in the passing game. You hate to see professional athletes put blessed talent to waste and unfortunately for Hernandez–he won’t be playing in the NFL anytime soon.
