Chip Kelly‘s mini-camp was a high paced, carnival like atmosphere with blaring music and an uptempo speed not seen before at Novacare Complex. Mini-camp and Training Camp are where the foundation will be laid for what kind of speed and efficiency a Kelly offense will be run at.
Philadelphia Eagles training camp promises to be as exciting as it has been in recent memory, especially with all the players in pads. Late July is truly where the men are separated from the boys, and this camp will give coach Kelly a good idea of which players fit into his team schematically and which ones don’t. As Kelly said at his presser after the draft “big people beat up little people”. Training camp is the best way to gauge which individuals can physically handle the offensive and defensive assignments and distinguishes which players show up when the pads come on.
Training camp will be a critical time for the coaching staff and the players. The installing of most of the offense and defense has been taught and re-taught to the players. Now it is time for them to apply it on the practice field and discover which 53 men best fit a Kelly offense and a Billy Davis defense. There are always one or two surprises that come out of camp, and this year should be no different.
Three positions that the Eagles are going to have a tough decision on are running back, wide receiver, and tight end. Frankly, the Eagles are stocked full of talent at all three positions, and they are going to have to let some pretty solid players go in favor of better situations elsewhere. Training camp is almost here, and the preseason and regular season feel like they are right around the corner. Are you ready for some football?
