Even though the starting job for Aaron Rodgers is safer than having Jack Bauer as a bodyguard, there was plenty of interest surrounding whether or not the Green Bay Packers would give Vince Young a shot for the 2013 season after bringing in the quarterback for a workout on Monday. Now, it appears the Packers are willing to give the former first-round pick a shot to be the team’s backup quarterback–which is a wise move.

Young will reportedly sign a one-year deal with the Packers for the 2013 season after spending last season with the Buffalo Bills. Even though Young hasn’t stepped foot on the football field during the regular season since 2011 when he was a member of the Philadelphia Eagles, Young certainly seems like the favorite to win the backup job at quarterback to Aaron Rodgers.
Plus, if anything were to happen to Rodgers during the regular season–the argument can be made that Young would be a better option than B.J. Coleman or Graham Harrell. Only time will tell when it comes to whether or not this was the right move by the Packers, but where’s the harm in a one-year deal?
If anything, Green Bay is smart for taking such a low risk with the hope of a high reward on Young–so it will be interesting to see how this move plays out during the regular season.
