Should Baltimore Ravens Look to Sign a Free Agent Wide Receiver?

If there’s one thing you could conclude from the Baltimore Ravens‘ opening night loss on Thursday, it’s that they miss Anquan Boldin and Dennis Pitta. That was obvious right from the get-go and matters were made worse when Jacoby Jones went down with a knee injury after to being run into by his own teammate. Ravens’ fans are currently holding their breath as Jones will undergo and MRI to determine the extent of his injury.

If Jones is able to return in time for week two, that would do wonders for the Baltimore receiving corps. But even if he does recover in time to make it back next week, I believe the Ravens should look at the free agent market to possibly acquire another pass-catcher. Dallas Clark and Ed Dickson left much to be desired at the tight end position and the rest of the Baltimore receivers, outside of Torrey Smith, didn’t really make much of an impact.

As far as who the Ravens should consider on the free agent market, Brandon Lloyd makes the most sense. He’s a proven veteran wide out who’s produced solidly throughout his career. Lloyd is not a guy that’s going to come in and instantly fix all of the team’s issues at receiver, but he could be a valuable contributor and target for Joe Flacco. On the other hand, you have to wonder why he hasn’t been signed to this point…

Best case scenario for the Ravens is Jones not missing any time with his knee injury. But based on the way he looked last night, I’m not sure he’ll be 100 percent anytime soon. If that’s the reality, Baltimore fans will have to trust Ozzie Newsome will work his magic once again to bring in another set of hands for Flacco.
