When the San Francisco 49ers traded for Anquan Boldin this spring, the move kind of went under the radar. Despite how much Boldin meant to the Baltimore Ravens during their Super Bowl run, he was still seen as a replaceable player. Well, now that he’s playing for the 49ers, he’s once again reminding us that he is as indispensable as it gets.
With 13 receptions for 208 yards and a touchdown, Boldin was the key to the win against the Green Bay Packers. We all knew, well we should have all known, that Colin Kaepernick was more than capable of winning games with his arm. All he needed was a consistent weapon to throw to.
In steps, Boldin is as reliable a receiver as you will ever find. He does his best work going over the middle of the field, making the tough catches and getting the tough yards. Those are the kind of receptions that move a team down the field, and into the end zone.
This is going to be a great year for the 49ers, I think we all thought that going into Week 1. But, I don’t think any of us thought Boldin still had this kind of game in him. The Ravens certainly didn’t when they let him go for the measly sum of a sixth-round draft pick.
He was totally dominating against the Packers, putting the team on his shoulders and leading them to the win. It was even Bolding who caught the touchdown that came after the botched referee call that will dominate the airwaves in the coming days.
The acquisition of Boldin was one of the best moves of the offseason, and makes one of the best teams in the NFL even better.
