NFL Reportedly Still Pursuing 18-Game Schedule; It’s All About the Money

With all the buzz about player safety and the fact the NFL just paid out a $765 million lawsuit settlement over concussions, you’d think that talks of an 18-game season would have been put on the back burner. Well, according to a report from PFT, that’s not the case. Despite all the things the league has done to protect its players in recent years with rules and regulations, officials are still trying to persuade the the NFLPA to extend the regular season by two games.

While this is somewhat surprising when you consider all of the recent legal battles, it’s really not that shocking. We’re talking about the NFL, a multi-billion dollar institution. There’s no such thing as ‘enough’ money to the NFL. From a business perspective, I get it. There’s definitely more money to be made. But how can officials seriously justify two more games at the same time when they’re preaching player safety? Something doesn’t add up.

I believe the NFL doesn’t really give a crap about its players. They’re saying all the right things when it comes to concussions and hits to the head these days, but when you get right down to it, they don’t care. Players are just like any other low-level employees to them. They need production to make money and money is their bottom line. More games means more production and more greenbacks for those at the top. The NFL is actually a pretty good example of how America is structured right now.

Players need two more games, like they need holes in their heads. That could actually happen, if those at the top of the chain get their way.
