Tampa Bay Buccaneers Rumors: Greg Schiano To Leave For Texas?

Greg Schiano

Rob Foldy-USA TODAY Sports

With things quickly unraveling for Greg Schiano and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 0-3, it’s no surprise that fans are already calling for his job. There’s said to be lots of animosity in the Tampa locker room and that many players are not on board with Schiano’s philosophy and coaching style. Two of the teams top players, Josh Freeman and Darrelle Revis, are specifically rumored to be at odds with Schiano. Just three games in, it seems the smart money is that Schiano will not last the season as the Bucs’ head coach.

Now, to add fuel to that fire, rumors have started swirling across the internet that Schiano could be the next guy in line to coach the Texas Longhorns.

With Texas struggling, many people believe it’s only a matter of time before Mack Brown steps down. He’s been there too long and done too well to get fired, but news of him ‘stepping down’ wouldn’t be all that shocking at this point.

Last week, Nick Saban to Texas rumors were flying all around. Most logical thinking football fans quickly dismissed those rumors, although you couldn’t blame Texas if they wanted Saban to be their new head coach.

Schiano is much more likely to succeed Brown. It’s too early to call him a failure in the NFL, but all signs point to his style not working on the next level. I won’t be surprised a bit to see him return to college in 2014. These rumors of Texas wanting him are out of left field, but if he does become available and the Longhorns continue to struggle, he wouldn’t be a bad hire.
