After it seemed the MRSA (staph infection) outbreak that threatened the Tampa Bay Buccaneers‘ was subdued, reports are coming out that more players are now infected/reinfected. Because of this, it’s possible that the Bucs’ upcoming home game against the Philadelphia Eagles could be canceled.

NFLPA tells @wingoz that, depending on what MRSA containment report says, the NFLPA could advise Bucs-Eagles not to play this weekend.

Bucs’ guard Carl Nicks had the infection back in the preseason, but improved to the point where he was able to return to the lineup in week three. Now, he’s one of the players who reportedly is struggling with the nasty infection again. MRSA is a type of staph infection that can be resistant to antibiotic treatment, so obviously the NFL is smart to step in here and possibly help players avoid coming into contact with it.

As or this moment, the Duke Infection Control Outreach Network is meeting with the Bucs to determine the next steps in this serious situation.

As much as fans would hate to see the contest get cancelled, there’s no game that’s worth putting players at risk. A MRSA outbreak is about as serious as it gets in an NFL locker room. Hopefully, the experts will get this thing under control and those infected can fight through and get back to full health.
