The Dallas Cowboys aren’t considered by many, if any, as a true contender to win a Super Bowl this year or anytime soon. Because of that Tony Romo isn’t talked about in any form except for “choker” or “choke artist”. Even though the Cowboys are only 5-4 this season, Romo has outplayed just about every quarterback on the opposing teams that he has faced. If Romo continues that and manages to outplay Drew Brees this evening, Tony should be considered the best quarterback in the NFC.
Tony has put up great stats through the first nine weeks of the season, but no one talks about it because they continue turning a blind eye to Romo’s true abilities and enjoy only talking about his mistakes. Eli Manning, Alex Smith, Robert Griffin III, Matthew Stafford and even the great Peyton Manning were all outplayed by Romo in head-to-head meetings this season, but still no one takes Tony seriously.
Tonight could be a passing of the torch between Brees and Romo for NFC’s best quarterback. Tony is a fierce competitor and that leads him to make bad decisions at times, but this season Romo has majorly improved upon those mistakes. Now Romo is able to not only continue putting up great stats, but his turnovers are now cut to a minimum. It was those turnovers that I felt kept Romo from being in consideration for best NFC quarterback.
Tony has done his part in improving his game, and now it’s just a matter of the media and all of his “haters” to start realizing how truly talented Romo is. I’m sure even if Brees is outplayed by Tony no one will talk about it because that’s just how Romo’s career has gone to this point.
Tonight isn’t just a game between Dallas and the New Orleans Saints. It is a battle between Romo and Brees to see who can lay claim to being the best quarterback in the NFC.
