Dallas Cowboys: First Quarter Grades For Every 2014 Draft Pick

A quarter of the way through the season, the Dallas Cowboys are 3-1 following an impressive win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday night. DeMarco Murray is running away with the rushing title while the defense has been plagued by injuries. While some fans are still dreaming of what could have been if Jerry Jones drafted Johnny Manziel, here's a look at how the players the team actually drafted are doing.

Zack Martin entered the 2014 draft as one of the most versatile offensive lineman in recent years. He started 52 games at tackle for Notre Dame before moving inside to RG for the Cowboys. Martin has started all four games on the revamped Dallas line and is a big reason why DeMarco Murray has 156 more rushing yards than anyone else in the NFL. This pick looks even better considering the team almost drafted Johnny Manziel in this spot.

In an attempt to fill the void left by DeMarcus Ware, the Cowboys traded up to select Demarcus Lawrence. This pick wasn't without risk as higher profile defensive ends Kony Ealy and Scott Crichton were still available. Due to a foot injury, Lawrence has yet to play in a regular season game. The Cowboys love his athleticism and will utilize his pass-rushing skills when he's eligible to return from IR on Nov. 2.

Round 4: Anthony Hitchens (ILB-Iowa)

Due to another injury to Sean Lee, the Cowboys have had to use a platoon of Rolando McClain and Anthony Hitchens at the MLB spot. In Week 3, Hitchens started and played extremely well, finishing the game with 13 tackles. With McClain returning from injury and Dallas playing a nickel defense, Hitchens did not play a defensive snap in Week 4. While Hitchens has played well, McClain appears to have won the starting role.

Round 5: Devin Street (WR-Pittsburgh)

Round 5: Devin Street (WR-Pittsburgh)

Devin Street was one of the best players available when Dallas selected him at No. 146. The problem is Street isn't a great fit with the Cowboys. He isn't nearly the deep threat that Terrance Williams is, and at only 190 pounds he can't be counted on to make plays over the middle. After seeing 21 snaps in each of the first two games, Street has only played a total of 12 snaps in the last two games. He's currently listed as the No. 5 WR.
