On Thursday night against the Minnesota Vikings – after a sharp interception by linebacker Jamari Lattimore – Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers led a brief drive the ended in rookie wide receiver Davante Adams‘ first NFL touchdown. Drafted in the second round by the Packers, Adams may well be one of the best developing wide receivers in the league today.

In 2013, Adams led the NCAA in both receptions and receiving touchdowns. In his first four games with the Packers, Adams caught nine passes for 79 yards with three first downs, but had yet to record a score. Late in the second quarter, he was able to pull one in against the Vikings.

Adams was thrown to earlier in the game, as Rodgers tossed him a lengthy pass that fell incomplete after Adams slipped on the wet turf. He slipped again when he caught his touchdown pass, but only as he was excitedly running out of the end zone.

While Adams started the year as a backup to Jarrett Boykin, he has seen more field time in the last couple of games because Boykin has been sidelined due to a leg injury. It will be interesting to see whether Adams or Boykin will play on the outside when Boykin’s injury has healed, as both are showing their value on this dynamic Packer offense.

Either way, the Packers have a stable of receivers who are all looking good this season. Jordy Nelson leads the league in receiving yards and receptions, while Randall Cobb leads the league in receiving touchdowns. Boykin hasn’t had much of a chance to do anything this season, but there was no questioning his hands and speed last season. Davante Adams has already shown himself to be a solid receiver and as of Thursday, he finally has his first NFL touchdown.

On another note, while one rookie receiver caught his first touchdown against the Vikings, rookie Jeff Janis from Saginaw Valley State in Division II caught his first NFL reception in the fourth quarter. Janis caught a nine-yard pass from Matt Flynn for Flynn’s first completed pass of the game; after giving up an easy interception on his first passing attempt. Janis caught another pass before the game’s end for a total of two catches for 16 yards on the day.

While the stories of the game will be Eddie Lacy‘s dual rushing scores, Julius Peppers‘ pick six and Aaron Rodgers three touchdown tosses, the young wide receivers looked very promising tonight.
