Jairus Byrd Headed To IR, New Orleans Saints Inch Closer To Panic
The New Orleans Saints have gotten off to a rocky start in 2014. The team most expected to win the NFC South, is currently tied for last in the division at 1-3. As crazy as it sounds, New Orleans will take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday in a battle to stay out of the NFC South cellar.
That’s where this Saints team is at in Week 5, and it appears things are about to get much worse with the loss of Jairus Byrd:
Not what that defense needed RT @TheSaintsBeat: Safety Jairus Byrd tore his lateral meniscus and will go on season ending IR, per Payton.

Unbelievably, this is the second surgery for Jairus Byrd with #Saints — knee & back in the spring. His contract was $54M over 6 years.

Losing the All-Pro safety is a major blow for a pass defense currently ranked 28th in the NFL (272.5 YPG). Rafael Bush, a fourth-year player, will take over at free safety on Rob Ryan‘s defense.
Don’t ever count the Drew Brees-led Saints out, but this about the last thing the reeling team needed after its slow start.
