Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson Is The Best Scrambler In NFL
Quarterback Russell Wilson ran all over the Washington Redskins on Monday night, and the Seattle Seahawks‘ quarterback proved that he is among the NFL‘s most elite players at his position. Well, Ryan Clark took it a step even further.
“We got beat by a better team,” Clark told the Washington Post. “We got beat by, as far as I’m concerned this weekend, the best player in the NFL. Russell Wilson made every play he had to make for his team to win, and we didn’t.”
Wilson rushed for 122 yards, the most of any quarterback in the 45-year history of Monday Night Football, and they came quite organically because his offensive linemen were not at their best. He improvised many of his runs, which kept the Redskins on edge for most of the evening. “I don’t think running for me is ever really part of the game plan,” Wilson said to ESPN. “It just kind of happens.”
It tends to happen more against D.C. as evidenced by Eli Manning scoring a TD on the ground last week. Wilson is from Richmond, Va. originally and looked right at home last night in the DMV with many family and friends in attendance.
In addition to massive rushing yardage, he passed for 201 yards and completed 18 of 24 throws for a 127.3 passer rating. That made him the first QB ever to pass for over 200 yards and rush for over 100 yards in a Monday night game, which is prime evidence of how valuable he is to the Seahawks.
He threw for two TDs and ran for another, but he also had three touchdowns to Percy Harvin that were called back due to penalties. This one could have been a true blowout and would have made my score prediction look a little bit more spot on. We should have already known Wilson to be one the league’s best QBs after last year’s Super Bowl victory, but he is now proving himself to be a man who will keep his team in the game regardless of score or situation.
He might just be the best player in football.
