In a battle of reeling vs. rolling, always go for rolling.
That’s at least one reason why the New York Giants will win at the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night Football. The Giants are rolling and the Eagles are reeling for a number of reasons, chief among them injuries along the Eagles’ offensive line.
Jason Kelce is one of the best centers in the game and he will not return until mid-November at the earliest due to hernia surgery. Kelce calls all of the signals and is so athletic he often throws blocks 30 and 40 yards downfield. His absence cannot be minimized nor can the absence of Pro Bowl guard Evan Mathis.
It also goes a long way to explain the relative ineffectiveness of the Eagles’ LeSean McCoy, who was widely acclaimed the best running back in the game a year ago and now cannot find a hole to save his life and the reason why QB Nick Foles has been running for his. Foles and McCoy are beat up, because one cannot find holes, and the other cannot find passing windows.
On the other side of the ball, the Giants can rush the passer and the Eagles have been spotty at rushing the passer—good in the game against the San Francisco 49ers and for the first half of the game against the St. Louis Rams. Other than that, though, the Eagles’ pass rush has been missing. Without pressure on quarterback Eli Manning, who has a tendency to throw the ball away instead of taking a sack, the Giants should be able to make explosive plays in the passing game and rookie Andre Williams should be able to do just enough in the run game to extend drives.
Look for the Giants to get to Foles and the Eagle offense to struggle without an effective line presence.
Prediction: New York Giants 24, Philadelphia Eagles 14
