Brandon Flowers Has Been Great For San Diego Chargers
Going into this past offseason, the San Diego Chargers had some holes at the cornerback position. You couldn’t really say that they had a No. 1 corner who had the ability to cover an opposing team’s top wide receiver. Well, the Kansas City Chiefs then helped out their division foe by deciding to release cornerback Brandon Flowers back in June, which led to the Chargers immediately pouncing on the Pro Bowler.
It’s pretty rare when an NFL team cuts a player with 17 interceptions in six seasons, but the Chiefs felt like they were paying Flowers more money than he deserved at the time, and felt that he was expendable.
Through the first five games of this season, Flowers already has two interceptions and really shined during their wins over the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills. It seems as though he has resurrected his career in San Diego after dealing with injuries and some poor play while he was in Kansas City.
Looking ahead this season, Flowers will really be tested when the Chargers have to take on their divisional rival, the Denver Broncos. He’ll have the difficult job of having to cover Demaryius Thomas, Wes Welker or Emmanuel Sanders. The good news is that rookie cornerback Jason Verrett has also been playing great for the Chargers this season, so at least Flowers will have some help on the outside against teams like Denver that are loaded with weapons.
