Miami Dolphins Suffer Big Loss With Knowshon Moreno Done For Season

Even though Lamar Miller has emerged as the starting running back for the Miami Dolphins, it is still important to have two backs who can produce each game. Unfortunately, the Dolphins will have to find someone else to step up as the change-of-pace running back after Miami announced Knowshon Moreno is done for the season with an ACL injury.

The 27-year-old had a career year with the Denver Broncos in 2013 in which he rushed for 1,038 yards and 10 touchdowns. After not getting much attention in free agency as expected, the Dolphins signed him to a one-year deal worth $3 million.

Miami was hopeful that the combination of Miller and Moreno would become one of the most lethal running attacks in the NFL. Even though Moreno’s inability to stay healthy has prevented him from doing much of anything this season, Miami still ranks sixth in the league in rushing yards per game (136.2). Just think about where they would be if Moreno did not have to deal with an elbow injury, which sidelined him for two games.

In his first game of the season, the former first-round draft pick showed exactly what he is capable of accomplishing when given the proper opportunity to succeed. He rushed for 134 yards on 24 carries and one touchdown in an upset win against the New England Patriots.

At this point, it will be interesting to see if the Dolphins re-sign him in the offseason given the injuries he dealt with this year. If they want to see their running game be taken to the next level, it certainly would not hurt to bring Moreno back in 2015.
