New York Jets’ Rex Ryan Would Be Better Suited As Coordinator

There is no doubt that Rex Ryan is truly one of the best defensive masterminds coaching today. With that being said, perhaps being head coach of the New York Jets was a step back in his professional coaching career. While he had incredible success when he first came to the team back in 2009, without any real knowledge on how to have an effective offense, it’s what ultimately will lead to his termination at the end of this season.

All is not lost, though, since plenty of teams out there would absolutely want Ryan on their team to fix any and all defensive issues. After all, he has a Super Bowl ring to his credit from when he created one of the best defenses of all time on the Baltimore Ravens not too long ago. Unfortunately at the moment, his time is running short as a head coach in the NFL.

Sometimes one needs to take a step back, reassess and then learn from all the experiences. It’s not like Ryan was a terrible head coach; he was doing all he could do given the personnel, direction and support from the Jets. Many believe that he was set up to fail, however, since his power and voice within the organization has been declining over the past few years.

Overall, Ryan should take this learning experience and really spend a year or two being a top defensive coordinator again. Once he gets a fresh start somewhere else and smartens up on how to handle coaching execution on offense, he will be a complete package down the road. By then, he will be a fully experienced head coaching candidate once again and be able to keep up with the best of them.
