Andy Reid Will Be X-Factor For Kansas City Chiefs In Week 7
The Kansas City Chiefs are coming out of the bye week with a record of 2-3. One of the three losses was a beat down, but the other two were games against tough teams on the road that Kansas City had a chance to win. In the tough losses to the Denver Broncos and San Francisco 49ers, Andy Reid made some very questionable decisions.
He was rightfully questioned about not going for it on fourth-and-one at midfield while trailing a Peyton Manning-led offense and poor clock management against the Broncos. Against the 49ers, Reid was second-guessed about throwing the ball three times on three different third-and-one situations when Jamaal Charles is on hand, and about giving Charles just 16 touches.
It was the second time this season he couldn’t explain not giving one of the best running backs in the NFL the ball. Reid is an incredible coach who was largely responsible for the Chiefs’ historic turnaround from a 2-14 team to an 11-5 playoff team.
Reid’s done too many things right to count since coming to Kansas City, but he’s definitely dropped the ball with some of his decision making of late. He needs to get back on track for a big road game against the San Diego Chargers on Sunday.
Reid’s pretty good after the bye, sporting a 13-2 career record after the break, though the two losses came in the last two seasons. If you’d like another confusing statistic, the Chiefs are 0-6 in San Diego, but in Reid’s only trip as a Chief, he was a hair away from beating them with a team of reserves.
I can go over weird stats all day, but the bottom line is, Kansas City has everything needed to win this game. The Chiefs are a talented team that has looked great on the road. Reid needs to get out of his own way.
A few times this season he outsmarted himself, and a few times he’s just lacked common sense. Every football fan knows he’s better than that. If Reid shows it on Sunday, the Chiefs are good bet to take home a big road victory.
