The San Diego Chargers will look to continue their winning-streak against their division rivals the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. The Chiefs have not gotten off to as strong a start as last season, but they have had to deal with their fair share of injuries.
Luckily for them, they are coming off of a bye week and should return healthier. The Chargers will have their hands full with a tough Chiefs team, and will need a big game from linebacker Donald Butler. If Butler can lead the defense, then the Chargers should have a good chance to win.
The Chiefs have one of the top running backs in the league in Jamaal Charles, and they will look to utilize their running game often. They want to control the ball and not force their quarterback Alex Smith to win the game with his arm. They also have an emerging young tight end in Travis Kelce, who could give the Chargers trouble with his athleticism.
While Butler will not always be matched up with Charles, it is likely that he will be responsible for him the majority of the time. Butler has underrated athleticism and will need to make sure that his teammates identify where Charles is on the field at all times. Charles has the rare ability to take over games and win them by himself. He is a natural game-breaker, so the Chiefs will try to get the ball too him as much as possible.
The Chargers have plenty of talent on defense, as shown in previous weeks. However, Butler is one of the leaders and will be the one relaying the plays to his teammates. He needs to have a positive impact on the game to help neutralize Charles and the Chiefs offense. He will be asked to do a lot, from covering talented players in pass defense as well as stopping the run. As he has shown in the past, he is more than capable of meeting the challenge, and will be the X-factor on Sunday.
