Top 5 Seahawks vs. Rams Matchups To Watch

While the St. Louis Rams and Seattle Seahawks had much different record the past couple of years, the games between the NFC West rivals have been hard fought and closely contested. Their Week 7 matchup figures to be no different as St. Louis will be motivated to play the defending Super Bowl champions. Here are my top five matchups to watch during this week's game.

The Seattle Seahawks have been one of the best run defenses in the NFL this year, but a big reason was the impressive play of middle linebacker Bobby Wagner. Now Wagner is out with an injury, and the Seahawks will slide K.J. Wright inside to fill his void. Wright will have his talents tested on Sunday against the Rams' impressive running back tandem of Zac Stacy, Benjamin Cunningham, and rookie Tre Mason.
4. Percy Harvin vs. Rams' Secondary

Coming into this game, the St. Louis Rams boast a top 10 passing defense in the league. The Seahawks may not be a pass-happy offense, but they certainly like to utilize the explosiveness in Percy Harvin. The Dallas Cowboys were able to completely shut Harvin down last week, so it will be interesting to see how he responds in Week 7 against a young and talented Rams secondary.
3. Austin Davis vs. Earl Thomas

With Sam Bradford out for the season yet again, Austin Davis has taken over as the starting quarterback of the St. Louis Rams. Despite the team's 1-4 record, Davis has performed admirably in Bradford's absence. However, he is known to take some risks over the middle of the field, and he has yet to face a safety with the speed and instincts of Earl Thomas. Will Thomas take advantage?
2. Marshawn Lynch vs. Rams' Front Seven

While Marshawn Lynch has been one of the best running backs in the league since joining the Seattle Seahawks in 2010, the Seahawks have underutilized him this season. The coaching staff realizes this and will look to get Beast Mode established early in this game. The Rams have struggled to stop the run for most of this year, so Lynch could be in for a big day.

The biggest matchup to watch on Sunday will be between the Seattle Seahawks' pass protection and the St. Louis Rams' pass rush. Since Russell Wilson has been the starting quarterback for the Seahawks, St. Louis has sacked him 19 times in only four games. While the Rams only have one sack in 2014, they have one of the most talented pass rushers in the league in Robert Quinn.
