This is a matchup between two teams that seem to be heading in opposite directions at the moment. The Dallas Cowboys, winners of five straight, might just be the best team in football at the moment. The New York Giants, on the other hand, ended their three-game winning streak with a shutout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Not only did the Giants lose the game but they are dealing with a lot of injuries.
The Cowboys are the best running team in the league averaging 160 yards per game on the ground. The Giants, before last week’s game, were a top 10 run defense, but then the Eagles ran all over the Giants to the tune of 203 rush yards.
The Giants will certainly focus the majority of their attention on the Cowboys run game, and try to make Tony Romo beat them. The problem with that plan is that Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is not 100 percent which means Prince Amukamara may be overmatched against Dez Bryant. Amukamara is having a very good season, but he is not the caliber of cornerback that Rodgers-Cromartie is.
On the other side of the ball, the Giants should be able to move the ball against the Cowboys’ defense. Dallas’ defense hasn’t been as bad as people expected, but that’s because they haven’t been on the field very often. If the Giants can somehow control the Cowboys’ run game, then they should be able to score even without Rashad Jennings, and Victor Cruz.
In the end, this is an enormous division game for both of these teams. The Giants need this game to stay in the division race, and the Cowboys need this game to keep pace with the Eagles. In these types of games, you usually have to throw out the records and expect a close game. Since the Cowboys don’t have much of a home-field advantage this should be a close game, but I give the Cowboys the slight edge because they are the better team.
Prediction: Cowboys 28, Giants 24.
