The Carolina Panthers head into Lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packersin what could be Week 7′s Game of the Week. The Panthers sit atop the NFC South, while Green Bay is tied with the Detroit Lions for first place in the NFC North. Something will have to give in this juicy contest between two potential playoff teams.
Carolina is coming off a 37-37 tie to the Cincinnati Bengals, but more importantly, it seems Cam Newton has finally broken out of his funk. Heading into Week 6 of the NFL season, Newton did not even have 50 rushing yards, but with a 117-yard rushing performance, combined with three total touchdowns, the Panthers’ star quarterback very well may be back on track.
The team will need him to continue to make plays with his feet throughout the duration of the season if Carolina wants to make a serious run. With the exception of Kelvin Benjamin and Greg Olsen, the Panthers simply do not have enough playmakers on the offensive side for Newton not to make a major impact. We all know what a tough place Lambeau Field is to play in, and as a result, Newton and the Panthers will need to bring their A-game.
The Packers have won three consecutive games, and Aaron Rodgers is playing great football. He has great chemistry with Randall Cobb, and has an even better connection with star Jordy Nelson. Assuming Green Bay is able to keep the passing game going, they will have a great chance to come out victorious.
Although the passing game has been strong, the Packers really need to see more production from running back Eddie Lacy. He has rushed for over 100 yards in only one game this season, and has only three total touchdowns on the year. The Packers need to figure out a way to not be a one-dimensional offensive team, and if they are able to do so, Green Bay will continue to be a tough team to beat.
Final Prediction: Green Bay is playing too well right now for me to take the upset. Packers win a close one, 27-24.
