Predicting the Final Score of Browns vs. Jaguars

Since December of 2000, these oft-struggling teams have encountered each other 10 times, splitting the series. However, it’s clear that going into Week 7 of the 2014 season, the Cleveland Browns hold the upper hand in this matchup over the winless Jacksonville Jaguars.

Kyle Shanahan’s zone-blocking scheme has been working extremely well for the Browns; they rank third in rushing yards per game with 146.4. The three-headed backfield monster of Ben Tate, Terrance West and Isaiah Crowell has been the focal point of a Browns offense that also features one of the league’s highest-rated deep passers in Brian Hoyer. West has been the odd man left out of the rotation as of late, so look for Tate to be the bruiser and Crowell to be a change of pace against the Jaguars.

Meanwhile, the Jaguars have struggled to get anything going on the ground this season. Toby Gerhart leads the team with a whopping 123 yards through six games. There is hope in the Blake Bortles-led passing game, but the fact remains that the rookie has looked, well, like a rookie. Expect ball-hawking safety Tashaun Gipson and shutdown corner Joe Haden (who has yet to make a pick this year) to each take advantage of errant Bortles passes.

The Browns will cash-in on their first possession and they won’t look back. After blowing out the Pittsburgh Steelers last week, the Browns have proved they are a dominant team, and they will be looking to continue asserting their authority in Week 7. The Jaguars, on the other hand, are a serious candidate to remain winless for the duration of 2014.

Final score: Browns 33, Jaguars 13
