Predicting the Final Score of Chiefs vs. Chargers
The San Diego Chargers are playing as good as any team in the NFL right now. The Chargers have won five straight games since losing their opening game by a point on the road against the Arizona Cardinals. Not only that, but Philip Rivers has been incredible. He is playing as well as any quarterback in the league, and I’m not sure if many people realize it. It shouldn’t be a surprise to the Kansas City Chiefs, who have the unwanted task of trying to slow down the Chargers’ offense this week.
So far this season, Rivers has 15 touchdowns to just two interceptions and is completing just a shade under 70 percent of his passes. He has complete control over this offense and has had it looking unstoppable at times this year.
Apart from last week’s performance against the Oakland Raiders, the defense has been better than expected. The acquisition of Brandon Flowers in the offseason has proved to be a good move. His presence along with Eric Weddle has created a solid pass defense for San Diego.
Kansas City’s start to this season has basically been the opposite of what happened last season. A year ago, the Chiefs started 9-0, partially thanks to an easy schedule and by winning a lot of close games. This year, the Chiefs aren’t winning the close games and their schedule has been brutal.
Kansas City will need their pass rush to have a big day if they are going to have any chance to slow down the Chargers. They have the talent on the defensive line to do it, but Rivers gets the ball away so fast that it’s difficult to get pressure on him.
Jamaal Charles should be at 100 percent coming off the bye week for the Chiefs and will likely get a lot of touches. Kansas City will likely try and keep San Diego’s offense on the sidelines as long as possible by controlling the ball on the ground. Both Charles and Knile Davis should get a lot of action this week.
San Diego could get caught looking ahead to next Thursday’s showdown against the Denver Broncos. It is a classic trap game for the Chargers, but I think they still find a way to pull out the win. It will be a close game though.
