New Orleans Saints Will Still Win NFC South
Somehow the New Orleans Saints managed to blow a 13-point lead to the Detroit Lions today and now sit at 2-4 on the season. Nobody saw a showing like this coming early on, and now the Saints are going to have to work for the rest of the season to make up ground.
Luckily for them, the Carolina Panthers lead their division at 3-3-1. It’s for that reason that the Saints still can and will win the NFC South division. They are the most talented team in the division, and they’re going to be able to rebound and pass up the Panthers.
Since the Saints still get to play the Panthers head-to-head, they can make up ground quickly. Additionally, they’re healthier than the Panthers are. That’s going to make a big difference down the stretch.
Even though they got Jonathan Stewart back this week, the Panthers have been very banged up in the backfield and that’s starting to hurt them. If they don’t figure out a new offensive identity, they’re in trouble.
Meanwhile, the Saints have Drew Brees on their side. He’s still an elite quarterback, and he’s going to come to play every week knowing his team’s back is up the wall. A quarterback playing with that kind of motivation can be a very dangerous thing.
Despite the bad blown lead to the Lions this week, the Saints are still very much alive. Have no fear New Orleans; the Saints have a run in them, and they’re going to pass the Panthers to prevent them from winning the division in back-to-back years.
