The NFL will have a team in Los Angeles at some point in the near future. It’s really just a matter of when.

According to a new report from PFT, the NFL views the St. Louis Rams as the most likely team to relocate to America’s second largest TV market. However, the San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders remain on the short list.

The Rams are the obvious favorite for a few reasons.

First and foremost, they can leave the Edward Jones Dome after any of the upcoming seasons without penalty. Secondly, team owner Stan Kroenke owns land (purchased last year) in Hollywood Park where a new stadium could be built. Thirdly, the Rams would have a smooth transition back to Los Angeles, a place where the franchise called home from 1946-1994. Plus, the Rams already play in the NFC West, and having them in L.A. actually makes more geographical sense.

St. Louis likes the Rams, but it loves the Cardinals. The STL will always be a baseball town over a football town. That’s the reality of the situation.

The report from PFT states that the city is possibly going to propose a new open air stadium to try and keep the Rams around, but the writing appears to be on the wall at this point. It isn’t just speculation or connecting the dots, there are real Rams-to-L.A. ties.

Bottom line, and likely above all else, there’s more money to be made in Los Angeles than St. Louis.
