New York Jets Should Strongly Consider Trading Chris Johnson

So far this season, Chris Johnson hasn’t at all lived up to his expectations from when he first arrived to the scene. The New York Jets running back has been getting outplayed by starter Chris Ivory and has become a non-factor of late on offense. It’s in the interest of the Jets to simply cut their losses and trade him to help fix other major issues on the team.

They always say that stats don’t lie, and when you look at them, there is a big reason why Ivory continues to be the preferred running back for the Jets. So far this season, Ivory has 432 yards compared to Johnson’s 261, averages 4.9 yards per carry compared to his 4.1 and has three touchdowns compared to his one.

It was expected during the offseason that Johnson would become a true dual-threat kind of athlete with the Jets considering his ability to run effectively and be another receiving target. Johnson’s main issues are that he drops the ball when he’s being thrown to and looks like he’s lost a step when taking handoffs. He doesn’t have that finesse he once possessed and almost always goes down in a hurry the moment he’s hit.

Right now, the Jets need help at cornerback because it’s the main weakness on the team. Since they addressed their receiving woes by acquiring Percy Harvin via trade, it would only make sense to see what teams are interested in Johnson to help add a quality cornerback into the mix.

With Ivory becoming a true workhorse on offense, the Jets won’t be missing much if they trade Johnson to bolster up their defensive secondary. Not only would it give someone like Bilal Powell more of a role on offense, but it could also help the Jets try to salvage this season by adding some much-needed quality to their cornerback situation.

Overall, if the Jets are truly serious about trying to make this season something worth remembering, they should really explore what teams would be interested in making this trade happen. It could help both teams out if the right kind of deal could be made as plenty of teams out there could use Johnson in their backfield.
