Denver Broncos Should Strongly Consider Trading Wes Welker

There’s no doubt that wide receiver Wes Welker has been a great player for the Denver Broncos over the past year and a half, but it’s time for the defending AFC Champions to move on.

Welker is still one of the top slot receivers in the NFL, but the Broncos no longer need him and let’s face it, he’s a concussion away from his career possibly being over. The Broncos didn’t have a problem at all with using Emmanuel Sanders to replace Welker’s production while he served his suspension earlier in the season for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy.

Welker is averaging 4.25 receptions and 44 yards per game. While Sanders has been averaging 6.3 receptions and 85 yards per game. Peyton Manning has clearly been favoring Sanders more since he’s more versatile. He can work out of the slot or on the outside and stretch opposing defenses.

There are plenty of teams like the New York Jets, Cleveland Browns and Oakland Raiders who could use a receiver like Welker. I also thought of the New England Patriots, but there’s no way the Broncos would give Welker back to New England and then possibly have to face them in the playoffs.

If the Broncos do decide to part with Welker, don’t expect them to hand him to a playoff contender that could hurt them down the road.
