Enigmatic is the word that best describes the Seattle Seahawks‘ 2014 season. After looking unbeatable against the Green Bay Packers in Week 1, the Seahawks looked flat in Week 2 against the San Diego Chargers. After beating the Denver Broncos in a Super Bowl rematch and the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football, the Seahawks looked lost against the Dallas Cowboys. The Seahawks followed up that loss with another loss, which came against the lowly St. Louis Rams. In need of a win, the Seahawks beat the Carolina Panthers on the road, but there are still a ton of question marks surrounding the team.
Despite losing a few key players on defense, many thought the Seahawks were going to be excellent again in 2014. Instead, the Seahawks’ defense has gotten beaten around. The “Legion of Boom” has been beaten by quarterbacks Tony Romo and Austin Davis this year. Because of their defense’s inability to be the same, the offense has taken on a huge burden. Russell Wilson has been great this year and he has been needed more than ever this season in Seattle. With the reports of how Marshawn Lynch won’t return in 2015, the Seahawks haven’t been the same running as they have in the past. With teams taking away Lynch and the running game, the offense has become one-dimensional, and to be completely honest, there aren’t a ton of quality skill players on this offense.
Even though the Seahawks haven’t looked all that great in 2014, it wouldn’t surprise me if they get back to form in the coming weeks. The Seahawks will return home to play against the Oakland Raiders and the New York Giants, two teams struggling, to say the least. I fully believe the Seahawks will end up being a very good football team when the postseason comes around, but it’s hard to fight for this team, given all of the expectations for them. To make it simple, the Seahawks have found out how hard it is to defend a title. There’s always extra incentive for teams when they’re going up against the team that won the Super Bowl the previous season.
