NFL Buffalo Bills

Turnovers Fuel Buffalo Bills In Win Over Jets

Jim Schwartz defensive coordinator

This game was over quickly thanks to a first quarter giveaway party from the New York Jets. Knowing that the Jets are prone to turning the ball over, the Buffalo Bills, led by the league’s No. 1 pass rush, brought pressure from the start. Because of the pressure, Geno Smith threw three interceptions in the first quarter. After just eight passing attempts, offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg finished the rest of the game with Michael Vick. Smith finished the game with just two completions and three interceptions.

After Vick went in, the turnovers did not get better. Not only did Vick throw an interception, but he fumbled the football four times, losing just two in the process. With the limited weapons and the shaky offensive line the Jets have, it was no surprise to see the Bills, a team with a talented defense even without star linebacker Kiko Alonso, absolutely demolish the Jets.

Even though this defense forced six turnovers, this game was closer than it should’ve been and a great reason for that is the talent level of this offense. Sure Kyle Orton is 3-1 since being named the starter for the Bills, the reality is Orton is not that good of a quarterback and he is holding the offense back.

While E.J. Manuel was bad to start the season, the Bills have to realize Manuel has potential and that he is the better option over Orton. For this team to stay afloat in the AFC, they will need to keep playing great defense. C.J. Spiller, arguably their best offensive player, is out for the season and Fred Jackson will be out for a few weeks as well. The Bills are honestly a horrible offensive football team. That being said, the defense will need to keep playing well for this team to keep winning.
