The Dallas Cowboys are being vague when it comes to Tony Romo‘s bad back. While the practice of not fully disclosing the extent of an injury is extremely common in the world of sports, in this case, it seems like the Cowboys may be hiding something serious.
All the Cowboys have said is that Romo is not done for the season. He’s currently listed as a game-time decision for this weekend’s contest against the Arizona Cardinals, but there are rumors of him missing much more time than just Week 9.
One report from PFT is fairly vague itself, but a source with knowledge of the situation does expect Romo to ‘miss some time’ following his latest back flare up. Although the Cowboys are saying this latest bout has nothing to do with the surgery the QB underwent late last year, it’s still pretty clear that his back is just not in good shape overall.
Romo should probably not have returned to MNF after being knocked out. It was obvious that his back was killing him, and he basically ended up playing like a shell of himself late in the fourth quarter and overtime. There’s no point in running him out there in Week 9, or any week after that, if he’s just going to go through the motions.
The safe bet is probably to rest him now. Unlike years past, the Cowboys actually have a little breathing room. If there’s a chance Romo can be saved this season, the Cowboys need to take advantage of it now and not wait until it’s too late.
