Arrowhead Stadium will host the Week 9 matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the New York Jets. It was an ugly performance from the Jets last week against the Buffalo Bills and as a result, they will turn to Michael Vick for a boost to their offense. Vick is getting thrown into the fire right away against a stingy Chiefs defense, and now all the pressure is on him to turn the Jets’ season from nothing into something.
The Chiefs have been playing some great football since their star running back Jamaal Charles was penciled back into the starting lineup. Last week. the Chiefs’ defense held the St. Louis Rams‘ offense to 200 yards of offense while Charles totaled 111 all-purpose yards of his own. Obviously, Charles is the guy to watch out for in this game and he is going to be the most dangerous player on the field when the two teams meet up on Sunday. Despite having a very poor pass defense, the Jets’ rush defense has been great against the run and is ranked No. 5 in the league, so it should be an interesting matchup to watch for.
Both of these teams are very similar when it comes to play style. The Jets and the Chiefs rely on time management, a strong running game and the importance of field position. Look for those aspects of the game to be preached on and executed in order for a winner to be crowned.
This week begins the Vick era for the Jets and after a terrible game by Geno Smith against the Bills, it was inevitable Vick would be given a chance to start. In garbage time last week, Vick entered the game late and managed to move to offense, but he gave the ball away far too often, just like Smith.
I expect the Jets to take care of the ball and not try to do too much. The only chance the Jets have of winning this game is by keeping the Chiefs off the field, and keeping the ball out of Charles’ hands. It’s going to be a hard-fought low-scoring affair between these two teams, but with the Chiefs at home and playing some of its best football of late, I think they come away from Week 9 with another win.
Prediction: Chiefs 21, Jets 17
