The St. Louis Rams were without their two starting cornerbacks when they were slaughtered by the Kansas City Chiefs 34-7 last week. It is looking like they will get Janoris Jenkins back this week. He will be the x-factor in this week’s matchup with the San Francisco 49ers.
Jenkins has been decent on a defense that has been awful. Teams have been rushing for close to 150 yards per game, which is the second worst in the NFL. Their pass defense is ranked 11th, which is partly attributed to Jenkins.
The Rams traded for Mark Barron this week, which can only help. Considering the low price they paid, he is going to help immensely down the line. Unfortunately, he will not be much help this week because of his grasp of the playbook. Jenkins may need to step up in this game to keep the Rams in it.
The 49ers came into St. Louis and won big, so the Rams have some serious work if they are going to get a win on the road. For one, Jenkins has to play. If they go another week without their starting CB, it will be a long one. Colin Kaepernick has been inconsistent all season long. Despite having some of the best players to throw to, his passing attack ranks 20th coming into the game.
If Jenkins can get a pick at a convenient time, it could swing the whole game. The Rams look like they are relegated to playing the role of spoiler this season. They already have six losses, and even winning out could see them miss the playoffs. They already took a swing at a contender when they beat the Seattle Seahawks two weeks ago. They will be looking to do the same this week against the 49ers.
Jenkins has been a decent CB to start off his career. He needs some plays that will have him stand out and make a name for himself. This is the stage where he needs to start. He has the talent to be a top corner in this league. If he can continue on this path mentally, then there is no doubt he will get there. In this game, he will be the x-factor for the Rams’ upset bid.
