The New York Giants are reeling at the moment, coming off back-to-back road losses to NFC East division rivals. After a Week 8 bye, Big Blue has had two weeks to prepare for Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts.
The Colts head to MetLife Stadium on Monday Night Football to face the Giants after Indy was crushed by the Pittsburgh Steelers, 51-34 last week. The Colts have had an inconsistent defense this season. Indy’s given up 17 or less points four times, but they have also given up 28 or more in their other four games.
As for the Giants’ defense, they may be at home with an extra week of preparation under their belt, but New York is facing a Colts team that averages over 450 yards of offense per game, which leads the league. Expect this to be a high-scoring affair in a game that each teams needs. New York is tying to climb back into the NFC East race while the Colts are clinging to a one-game lead in the AFC South.
With both quarterbacks playing well coming into this matchup, the contest could turn into a shootout. Luck will look for his eighth 300-yard passing game in nine weeks this season, and Eli Manning is trying to continue his solid comeback year after leading the NFL with 27 interceptions in 2013.
Manning has kept his interception total down for the first time in years, with 14 TD passes to only five picks. Manning has also been on a streak of not turning the ball over, with just one interception in his last five games. If Manning keeps it up, he’s on pace to throw about 10 picks this year, a number that would be his lowest since his rookie season when Manning only played in nine games.
Expect both QBs to have productive games, but the Colts have the advantage because of Luck’s impeccable playmaking ability and also because Indy has the better offense as a whole. It’s starting to be desperation time for the Giants, as their 2014 season is already close to slipping away, but a win would draw them back to 4-4 and restore hope to New York’s season.
Unfortunately for New York, they’re running into a Colts team that has too much offensive firepower. As for the defensive side of the ball, the Colts are sure to be motivated after getting embarrassed by Ben Roethlisberger last week. Indy gave up 639 yards to the Steelers, so expect their defense to have a better night against New York.
The Colts won’t exactly dominate the Giants on defense, but they should be good enough to get the win. Manning and the Giant offense will make plenty of plays, but it won’t be enough to hang with the Indy offense for 60 minutes. Luck and the Colts escape the Meadowlands with a win in what should be an exciting game on Monday night.
Final Score: Colts 34, Giants 24
